How to Find us

The Institute of English Studies is located in the heart of Bloomsbury at the University of London's Senate House on Malet Street, London WC1. The Bloomsbury area of central London is close to the West End entertainment district, Covent Garden, and the shopping areas and bookshops of Charing Cross Road, Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road. We are easily accessible by tube, bus and mainline train, which provide direct links to the London airports.

By Tube

Nearest underground stations:

  • Russell Square (Piccadilly Line)
  • Goodge Street (Northern Line)
  • Tottenham Court Road (Central Line and Northern Line)
  • Euston Square (Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan Lines)
  • Euston Station (Victoria & Northern Line)

By Rail

  • Euston, King's Cross and St. Pancras mainline stations are within walking distance (15 mins.)
  • Waterloo and Waterloo International: Northern tube line provides a service to Goodge Street (approximately 20 minutes)
  • Victoria Station: Victoria tube line to Oxford Circus and change to Central line to Tottenham Court Road (approximately 20 minutes)
  • Paddington: Hammersmith & City and Circle tube lines provide a service to Euston Square (approximately 15 minutes)
  • Liverpool Street: Hammersmith & City, Circle and Metropolitan tube lines provide a service to Euston Square (approximately 15 minutes)

By Air

  • From London Heathrow Airport: the Piccadilly tube line provides a direct and inexpensive service to Russell Square (approximately 50 minutes); or you can take the Heathrow Express to Paddington Station (approximately 15 minutes), where tube trains and taxis are available for your onward journey.
  • From London Gatwick Airport: the Gatwick Express and other mainline trains provide services to Victoria station (approximately 30 minutes), where tube trains and taxis are available for your onward journey.
  • The BAA website provides helpful information about travelling to and from, and facilities available at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stanstead airports.

By Car

Public car parking is not available at Senate House. There are NCP car parking facilities at Woburn Place & Bloomsbury Place.
