Ulysses:
25 Years Critical and Synoptic Edition of Ulysses
a one-day colloquium
Friday 6 November 2009 |
This colloquium marks the 25th anniversary of Hans Walter Gabler's three-volume Critical and Synoptic Edition of Ulysses (Garland, 1984). Heralded for its groundbreaking editorial method, criticized for its radical intervention, Gabler's edition has “survived” praise and controversy, and is today still a standard edition in Joyce studies and an exemplary model for “genetic” editing. The moment seems opportune to revisit the edition's editorial principles, and to re-evaluate its position in textual editing and literary criticism.
The colloquium will also mark the launch of a new seminar for Textual Scholarship at the Institute.
Registration: £20 (£15 Concessions)
