How can medieval books gain a new life and meaning centuries after their creation?

Join the CULTIVATE MSS team in an immersive theatre experience that will bring back to life the dramatic atmosphere of early twentieth-century book auctions and the collectors and dealers who helped shape the way we see and understand medieval objects today.

In this virtual rare book auction, we will ‘fight’ for our favourite manuscripts, manage a generous budget, represent distinguished collectors, and reflect on the role of early auction houses and book dealers in reimagining and creating new lives for our cultural heritage. The evening ends with a short conversation with the historians and actors, and the launch of a virtual exhibition and podcast series. This event is suitable for young adults and adults interested in immersive theatre, storytelling, the history of the Middle Ages, and wider discussions about the preservation of cultural heritage.

This event will run via Zoom. You will receive a Zoom link shortly before the event.
