The seminar will be held online via Zoom.
Dr Marshall Moore will be in conversation with two widely published writer-scholars, Craig Barr-Green and Lynn Huggins-Cooper. All three panel members were working writers before receiving their respective diagnoses. The question then is what role does being autistic/ADHD have, if any, on a person’s creative work? Does it serve as a frame for understanding one’s creative process better, both in terms of possibilities and limitations? Does it enhance creativity in some meaningful, measurable way?
Craig Barr-Green writes picture books, nonfiction titles and theatre productions for children. He lectures in Children’s Literature and is a seasoned children’s bookseller. He often performs storytelling shows at festivals, and set up the SLT publishing company Clickety Books. He is a passionate advocate for children’s literacy and neurodivergent representation. His latest picture book, Gina Kaminski Saves the Wolf, was published by Little Tiger in September 2023, with illustrations by Francis Martin.
Lynn Huggins-Cooper is an English author and educator. She has written more than 200 books, and is best known for her many children’s books, including One Boy’s War, and her YA novel Walking with Witches. She is a Regional Organiser for the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).
Marshall Moore is an author, academic, and recovering publisher based in Cornwall. Recent books include the essay collection Sunset House (Rebel Satori Press, 2024) and the short story collection Love Is a Poisonous Color (Rebel Satori Press, 2023). With Sam Meekings, he co-edited the academic volume The Scholarship of Creative Writing Practice (Bloomsbury, 2024). He holds a PhD in creative writing from Aberystwyth University and is a Course Leader and Senior Lecturer at Falmouth University.
