This special study day, will provide an introduction to the Medieval manuscripts of Salisbury Cathedral, one of the most beautiful of British cathedrals. It will also serve as an introduction to the history of book production in medieval England, through study of the different types of evidence that can be excavated through the study of surviving books, documents and fragments in a single repository.
This short course is part of the London Rare Books School programme.

This course will take place at Salisbury Cathedral and delegates must make their own way there. Visit the Salisbury Cathedral website for directions.
Tea and coffee will be provided, but delegates must make their own arrangements for lunch.

10:30 - 11:30 Origins: Anglo-Saxon and Norman manuscripts
11:30 - 12:00 Coffee break in cathedral refectory
12:00 - 13:00 The twelfth to thirteenth century: Scholasticism and Salisbury in Europe
13:00 - 15:00 Lunch and free time to explore the cathedral and environs
15.00 - 16:30 Gothic and later manuscripts and provenance evidence
16:30- Conclusion and discussion
