This course will introduce students to the various hands they might encounter while working with Old and Middle French manuscripts and archival documents from the fourteenth and fifteenth century. Students will learn many of the commonly used abbreviations as we examine documents ranging from financial records to literary texts. Time permitting, students may propose their own texts for the class to work through together. This course is ideal for someone who has intermediate reading knowledge of modern French.
Students are expected to have a beginner-intermediate-level reading of modern French to take this course.
