4-5 February 2025 | Introduction to Latin Palaeography

This course will provide a brief overview of the main elements of Latin palaeography, concentrating on scripts of the later medieval period (1100-1500).

11-12 February 2025 | Intermediate Latin Palaeography

This course is aimed at those who attended the previous week’s Introduction to palaeography and who want to gain more practice in transcription.  It is also open to students with some experience in Latin palaeography who wish to refresh or improve their skills.

18-19 February 2025 | Cognitive Elements of Medieval Manuscript Layouts: Designing and Using the Folio Space

The course explores, through a close look at various folio layouts of different genres, the cognitive processes behind the design and use of the physical and mental space of medieval manuscript folios.

10-11 March 2025 | Transcribing Old and Middle French (1300-1500)

This course will introduce students to the various hands they might encounter while working with Old and Middle French manuscripts and archival documents from the fourteenth and fifteenth century.

28 April - 1 May 2025 | Introduction to Medieval Spanish Palaeography

In this course, students will explore the evolution of Iberian scripts, and be introduced to the key scripts and varieties found in books in late medieval Spain (13th-15th centuries).
