Five Day Course: 9-13 June 2025
This course introduces students to the complicated and messy processes of production through which pre-modern manuscripts were created. It offers a mixture of talks and practical sessions that give students the opportunity to work through the sequence of manuscript production. Students will make inks and pigments following medieval practices and have the opportunity to use these materials to write and decorate their own pages, as well as learning techniques used in medieval design. This course is suitable for anyone wanting to develop their knowledge of the materials and techniques of medieval book production.
The course is designed for beginners, with no previous experience.
