New alumni publication: Once Upon a Tome

Welcome to Sotheran's, one of the oldest bookshops in the world, with its weird and wonderful clientele, suspicious cupboards, unlabelled keys, poisoned books and some things that aren't even books, presided over by one deeply eccentric apprentice.

Once Upon a Tome: The Misadventures of a Rare Bookseller is the story of life in one of the world's oldest bookshops and a love letter to the benign, unruly world of antiquarian bookselling.
The book is written by IES alumnus, Oliver Darkshire, who studied on the MA in the History of the Book, graduating in 2020. In the book, Oliver talks at length about his positive experience on the course.

Oliver will discuss the book, and his time as a student at IES, as part of a seminar taking place at the Institute on 9 May 2023.
