Lucy Whitehead specialises in Victorian literature and afterlives, literary archives, and book history. She completed her AHRC-funded doctorate on ‘The Lives of Charles Dickens: A Metabiography 1870–Present’ at Cardiff University and the University of Exeter. She was the winner of the Journal of Victorian Culture’s Graduate Essay Prize in 2019 for her article ‘Restless Dickens’, and has spoken about her research into Dickens biographies on BBC Radio 3. In 2022–23 she is a short-term fellow at the Huntington Library and the Clark Library at UCLA. During her IES fellowship, she will be working on publishing her thesis as a book, and on a new monograph project focused on the transatlantic trade in Victorian literary manuscripts in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
