Daniel Albright Scholarship

Author and scholar Professor Daniel Albright was the Ernest Bernbaum Professor of Literature at Harvard University and the author of several books, including Panaesthetics: On the Unity and Diversity of the Arts. Professor Albright had also served on the faculty of the T.S. Eliot Summer School hosted by the IES.

The Daniel Albright Scholarship was generously donated by Dr Marta Rivera Monclova in memory of her late partner. An alumna of the T.S. Eliot Summer School herself, this generous gift will realise Dr Rivera Monclova’s wishes to both support a deserving student in their pursuit of education and to remember the life and work of Professor Albright. The IES and the University of London are sincerely grateful to Dr Rivera Monclova for her generous support.

Applicants for the Daniel Albright scholarship must:

1. demonstrate excellent academic merit or potential in the field of study, evidenced particularly by past achievements; and
2. normally be in a position where undertaking the MA/MRes History of the Book would be difficult due to financial/personal circumstances.

If studying part-time, UK fees will be waived for both years of the programme.

Overseas candidates may apply, but the award value will only match up to £10,000 of the overseas tuition rate. 

Note that you must have received an offer of place before submitting a studentship application.

Notification of outcome to all applicants: 17 July 2021

MA programme commences: Late September 2021

The scholarship is offered for a particular academic session and cannot be carried over to a later intake or a future year.

The Daniel Albright scholarship covers the ‘whole fee’ for the programme. For current tuition fees, please see the School's tuition fee page. The remaining amount is intended for research related expenses.

The awardee will be required to submit a short report (no more than 300 words) on their studies, to be shared with the donor of the Daniel Albright Scholarship, at the end of the academic year. They will also be required to submit a list of your expenditure to the Institute Director and Institute Manager with a justification of how the funds were used in support of their studies. We may use portions of the report for marketing and programme promotion.

1. Submit application to IES through SAS application system
2. After submitting application to IES, you will be interviewed by the programme leader and one other member of IES academic staff.
3. You will be notified by Registry Services if your application has been successful. Upon receipt of this notification, you may then apply for the studentship.
4. Download and complete the Daniel Albright scholarship application form and email to iesMA@sas.ac.uk

You will be notified by 17 July 2021 as to whether your application has been successful or not.
