The Institute of English Studies at the School of Advanced Study (SAS) has awarded a funded studentship for one place on its MA/MRes History of the Book programme 2022/23. The award covers fees in full at the Home rate. The studentship will be funded through the Institute’s Sambrook Fund, established when Keith Sambrook, a Fellow at the IES, generously donated his teaching fees from the Institute’s MA course. Over the years, other teachers from the MA and summer school programmes have also donated their fees towards supporting future students. One studentship will be offered every year over the next three academic years.

The Sambrook Fund Studentship seeks especially to support an excellent student who wishes to study on the MA in the History of the Book, but whose circumstances might make it difficult to access the programme.

 

Sambrook Fund Studentship

Award Criteria

Applicants for the Sambrook Fund Studentship must:

  1. demonstrate excellent academic merit or potential in the field of study, evidenced particularly by past achievements; and
  2. normally be in a position where undertaking the MA/MRes History of the Book would be difficult due to financial/personal circumstances.

If studying part-time, fees will be waived for both years of the programme.

Overseas candidates may apply, but the award value will only match the Home tuition rate.

Deadline for studentship applications: 30 June 2022

Notification of outcome to all applicants: 17 July  2022

MA programme commences: Late September 2022

Each scholarship is offered for a particular academic session and cannot be carried over to a later intake or a future year.

Scope of the Award

The Sambrook Fund Studentship covers the ‘whole fee’ for the programme. For current tuition fees, please see the School's tuition fee page. There are no maintenance fees attached to the award.

The studentship does not cover any other costs not directly payable to the University (such as the purchase of additional materials or electronic equipment), resubmission fees, and payment of further elective modules if the student decides to transfer, or any other fees not covered above. Applicants must ensure they can cover such costs from other financial sources.

To Apply

  1. Submit application to IES through SAS application system (https://www.sas.ac.uk/graduate-study/our-courses/masters-degrees/mamres-history-book#apply
  2. After submitting application to IES, you will be interviewed by the programme leader and one other member of IES academic staff.
  3. You will be notified by Registry Services if your application has been successful. Upon receipt of this notification, you may then apply for the studentship.
  4. Download and complete the Sambrook Fund Studentship application form and email to andrew.nash@sas.ac.uk

You will be notified by 17 July 2022 as to whether your application has been successful or not.
